[NZ] Ha muerto Dave "Orca" Bush

Con mucho, muchísimo dolor acabo de enterarme de la muerte de Dave "Orca" Bush piloto del Auckland Blokart Club Campeón del Mundo "Performance Super-Heavy" 2008, "Orca" no pudo venir a defender el título al Mundial 2010 por que su estado de salud estaba resentido por la quimio en su lucha contra el cancer.

En palabras de Rusell Harray, presidente del ABC, amigo y compañero de Dave "Sad news from NZ. Orca Bush passed away yesterday after a long fight with cancer. He was confortable and pain free at the end and went peacefully. He was a Auckland Champion, NZ Champion, and World Champion on the track and a real champion off the track. He will be missed by all the blokart family and remembered for being a good friend to all the blokart family."

Tras la reciente perdida de Orm Waltson en Lituania, perder ahora a otro gran piloto y mejor persona vuelve a dejar un hueco irremplazable en nuestra comunidad global.

Este pasado Febrero en los Master Games de NZ...

... durante la carrera "90 Mile Beach" el pasado Marzo...

... durante la entrega de los "Summer prize giving" el pasado 15 de Abril en la que "Orca" presentaba el trofeo "Crash" que sospechosamente recuerda el estado en el que quedó el carro de Paul cuando lo incrustó en la caseta de transponder... un cachondo


Ahora que ya ruedas en Blokart Heaven todos los días vigila por nosotros y guarda tu buen humor para cuando nos encontremos de nuevo... (¿has visto que sigo sin fumar?)

Corta historia de Orca y como empezó en blokart...

Reigning blokart world champion Dave ‘Orca’ Bush is a winner in more ways than one.

The West Harbour resident earned the tag of world’s best in 2008 and picked up yet another title last month by winning the Great 100km Race at Muriwai Beach.

But it is not just on the course that he is beating the odds.

Dave was diagnosed with prostate cancer four years ago and has defied the expectations of doctors ever since.

"I was basically given a death sentence," he says.

"They said the form of cancer I had was non-curable and very aggressive. My brother died of the same thing a few months after I was diagnosed so the prognosis wasn’t very good."

Faced with the prospect of having only months to live, Dave headed to the beach for some time out. He looked on as a man tried to sail a blokart and was intrigued by what he saw.

"After that weekend I went straight out and bought one," he says.

The 55-year-old believes taking part in the sport, which involves sailing a kart along a beach or track at speeds of up to 70kmh, may have added years to his life.

"It’s given me huge focus and purpose. The specialist says being active and having a positive attitude makes a big difference."

Dave, who picked up the Orca nickname after a strong wind gust forced him into a pond, did not have dreams of global domination when he first strapped himself in a blokart.

"At the start I just wanted to put it in the back of the ute, go to Muriwai and do some hooning along the beach. But after watching other people racing I thought I’d have a crack at it."

He now has a swag of titles to his name and is hoping to defend his world champion status next year in Belgium.

He is still living on borrowed time but things are looking good.

"I’ve responded very well to the treatment and there has been no growth. But it’s no magical cure. Science and medicine are helping people live longer with cancer rather than cure it.

" Unless I get run over by a bus, I probably will die of prostate cancer."

The father-of-two no longer produces testosterone and had to retire from his career as a bricklayer last year because it was too much of a strain.

He now drives a bus on a school run near Muriwai.

"I look at these kids on the bus and think to myself that every day is a bonus," he says. "I know it’s a cliche but each day above ground is a good one."

Que GRANDE es Dave¡¡¡. Una pena no haberlo conocido...menos mal que nuestro gurú nos contará su historia.

Te puedo contar que el apodo de Orca se lo gano en Blokart Heaven donde hay un pequeño montículo en una de las isletas verdes con una pequeña charca al lado... un día de aguacero con la mitad de la pista con varios centímetros de agua y al no poder competir el temita era coger el máximo de velocidad y tirarse hacia la zona inundada a ver quien hacía el desparramo más grande...

... en estas estaban chupando birras y haciendo aguadillas, cuando a una lumbrera se le ocurrió la brillante idea de... "a ver si hay huevos a saltar la charca" y para allá se lanzaron algunos que así lo hicieron... hasta que le tocó a Dave "116kgs" Bush... el salto de Dave previsiblemente fue sensiblemente más corto que el de sus colegas más ligeros, de tal forma que el efecto fué el mismo que un planchazo del gordo de la piscina... cuenta la leyenda que desde entonces la charca está seca y así Dave se ganó el sobrenombre de "Orca"... la ballena sonriente.

"Orca, funeral was yesterday and covered a lot of areas of Orcas life. A cycling champion, yachting champion, blokart champion, skiing, dancing, surfing, and "no excuses" for not making things happen. Good to see the huge blokart turnout. More there than when we actually go sailing which says a lot about Orca"
