Blokart and Mini Land Yacht Regatta at Varne Boat & Social Club

The Varne Boat Social Club in Kent hosted a land yacht regatta for the recently formed Mini land yacht class and the popular 'Blokart' on the weekend 10th-11th November.
The 'Blokart' racing was the last event in the BLSA Blokart 'B' Series so there were a few places to be fought for. The Mini yacht racing is a new class, the main rules for the class are that the 3 wheels have to fit inside a continuous piece of rope 5.6m long and max wheel diameter 8inches.
The format for the weekend's sailing was to be alternate races; 'B' series then Minis. The Blokart complies with the Mini rules so 'B' competitors had the choice to race in both events or spectate.
Competitors from Holland France, Belgium and Scotland took part. Those that arrived on the Friday had the beach to themselves to have a fun sail with a good breeze.
Saturday morning started in a good southerly wind with great beach conditions after an early high tide (flat and firm). The course was promptly set - competitors waiting all eager to get racing, but the wind died for the rest of the day. After a frustrating day all retired to the club. There was a good social in the evening together with a meal and an excellent band enjoyed by all.
Sunday dawned with bright sunshine but no wind - an early decision was made and the event was cancelled.
As there were no trophies to be awarded, competitors names were entered into a draw for two good prizes donated by 'Musto at Ashford' - they were won by Pete Newlands and Tony Rimmer. After a two minute silence, farewells were made, competitors departed, some getting early ferries, some stayed on to stroll on the beach in the sun. Many thanks to all who attended.
