"Hi and Welcome to all competitors, supporters and friends planning to come to the 2014 World Blokart Championships to be hosted by the Australian Blokart association and the Perth Blokart Club.

Two years since the 2012 Worlds at Las Vegas has gone quickly and the world continues to be a changing and challenging  environment .  Those planning to come to Perth will have a great time of companionship and sailing not to be missed.

2014 is a great opportunity for all blokart sailors/pilots from around the world to meet in Perth and experience the unique sailing to be held on lake Walyungup just south of the Amazing city of Perth in Western Australia.

A team of thirty or more will be attending from NewZealand to defend the titles won at the last world event in Ivanpah in 2012.   As always there will be strong competition from the Europeans that make the trip, especially the Spanish team, who are always a force to be reckoned with.

Australia is also producing some formidable pilots with the strongest contenders coming from the Central Queensland blokart club and the host club in Perth.  It will be great to see all the old Faces and new faces as well

Lake walyungup has been a popular land sailing venue for several decades and is well tested and proven as a top venue for Blokart sailing.   The  combination of the blokarts’ high manoeuvrability and the tight racing on the lakes surface is sure to be an adventure not to miss

With winds  in the 10 to 15 knots upwards range(2-5 Beaufort) competitors and spectators alike will be treated to fun and challenging sailing on the ever changing surface of the lakebed.

Temperatures will probably range from the mis 20′s to the mid 30′s making for pleasant conditions and no need to bring too much heavy clothing,  though protection from the sun will be a must.

The event will be opportunity to get together and enjoy the unique camaraderie the blokart inspires with a packed schedule of tyre shredding racing starting of with three days of the “2014 Australian open championships” as a shake-down for the “2014 World Blokart Championships” run over the following 5 days.

A special thanks in advance  to the volunteers from The Australian Blokart Association and especially the guys and Girls in the Perth Blokart club and timing Team from The Central Queensland Blokart club.

For those intending to come Please take the opportunity to Register as soon as possible to help with the logistics of the event or at least register your interest in answer the simple question on the Blokart Facebook page.

I wish you all the best for the competition and look forward to seeing you there.

Paul Beckett, Blokart International"

"Mission Beach Mission I made the 2 hour drive down to Mission Beach yesterday. I took the blokart just to check it out as I wasn’t overly hopeful of a sail because of the forecast light southerly wind. I was pleasantly surprised to find an ESE breeze of 10-15kt which later became 15-18kt. I could sail south with only a few tacks at about 30-40km/h and tear back up north at around the mid to high 50′s. The beach was great. Several km’s of empty beach, hard, golden sand. I used the 5 or so km between the jellyfish net and the northern end of the beach. Low tide was around 1330. I arrived at 1100 which gave me a solid 5 hours of sailing. To get valuable practice for the Aussie Champs next month and the Worlds next year, I set short mock courses and start lines using bits of driftwood jammed in the sand as marks. After sheeting on following one practice start a loud CRACK! put an end to my mast base, splitting it right down the middle. Naturally this happened about 2km from the car part meaning I had to get my lazy ass out of the kart and do some exercise. GPS showed I blokarted a total of 65km, 2km of this was pushing. Top speed 59km/h with a 4m sail."
