[PRENSA] Blokart en la "35th America's Cup"

Blokart provides momentum for America’s Cup Endeavour community sailing program

From sea to land, young participants in the America’s Cup community sailing initiative, Endeavour, will learn to harness the power of wind wherever they are with the addition of Blokart International ltd. as an Official Supplier.

Blokart, the wheeled land sailing karts, will be used for training and racing as the kids hone their skills.

“Blokarts will serve as tools in helping the Endeavour kids better understand engineering and apparent wind sailing – similar to the concepts for the America’s Cup yachts,” said Tom Herbert-Evans, the Community Sailing Program manager for the America’s Cup.

“The Blokarts will be great for safely demonstrating basic points of sail before going afloat, and for sailing when the weather doesn’t cooperate. Plus, they’re fun.”

Endeavour participants will begin using Blokart equipment later this year. The young sailors will also take part in a Blokart race during the 35th America’s Cup.

“At Blokart we’re passionate about introducing people to the thrills of sailing. We may sail on land, but our whole philosophy is about sharing the joy and excitement of using the wind to satisfy the need for speed,” said Paul Beckett, Blokart International ltd.

“Although the scale is completely different between Blokarts and America’s Cup boats, the angles you can sail and the speeds you can reach are very similar. The result is no surprise – everyone who gets into a Blokart steps out of it in love with high-performance sailing. So, it is a real privilege and a great pleasure for us to be involved with the Community Sailing Program. We hope every participant has the time of their lives.”

The team at Blokart International ltd. specializes in the design, manufacture and distribution of revolutionary sailing and recreational equipment. Inventor Paul Beckett developed the Blokart in September 1999. With a background in hang gliding, surfing and sailing, Beckett was inspired to build a serious wind-powered machine that was fun, fast and compact. Since the formation of the International Blokart® Racing Association (IBRA), the sport of blokart sailing, has grown into a one-design sailing Phenomenon.

The Endeavour program is set to begin the first phase of its curriculum this month with the opening of East Endeavour Fort – one of two operational bases.

Endeavour is a youth-focused community sailing and educational program in connection with the 35th America’s Cup. The mission is to provide unique sporting and educational opportunities through sailing for youths across all socioeconomic backgrounds. It highlights three pillars, including a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) educational component, the youth sailing initiative, and an internship opportunity for US College sailors and coaches. The program will have bases in the east (at St. George's) and west (Dockyard) sides of Bermuda.

About the America’s Cup

The America's Cup is the oldest trophy in international sport, dating back to 1851, when the yacht America, after which the trophy is named, beat the best of the British fleet in a race around the Isle of Wight, U.K. The trophy won on that day was donated in trust through a Deed of Gift and has since become a symbol of immense achievement. It is perhaps the hardest trophy in sport to win. In it’s 165-year history, only four countries have managed to win the America’s Cup.

The America's Cup is currently held by the Golden Gate Yacht Club in San Francisco, U.S.A.. On September 25, 2013, its team, ORACLE TEAM USA, completed the biggest comeback in sports to retain the trophy it had first won in 2010.

On December 2, 2014, Bermuda was named as the home of the 35th America’s Cup, with the iconic Great Sound as the race course area where the new America’s Cup Class boats (15-meter, foiling, wing-sailed catamarans) from each competing nation will race for the America’s Cup in May/June 2017.

The America’s Cup is honored to partner with Louis Vuitton as the title partner of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series, the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifiers and the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Challenger Playoffs. Louis Vuitton is also the presenting partner of the 35th America’s Cup Match, presented by Louis Vuitton.

The America's Cup is also proud to be supported by BMW, Bremont, ORACLE, the Bermuda Tourism Authority, and Gosling’s as well as: Appleby, BF&M, Butterfield, Butterfield & Vallis, Moët & Chandon, the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, PwC and Sail Racing.

America’s Cup updates are also available on your mobile device. Go to the App Store to download the official America’s Cup App.
